Healy – O’Kane Open Sea Races 16/07/16

Conditions were good on Saturday 16th July, for the Healy-O’Kane 1.5 kilometre open sea swims. This is a popular event on the Leinster Open Sea calendar and attracted 210 swimmers to compete in the ladies and gents races, for the Nell Healy Veterans Challenge cup and the Pat O’Kane Veterans Challenge cup. Two young Wicklow swimmers put in fantastic swims in their respective races to win both cups. Emma Smith and Conor McInerney are both only fourteen years old, which makes their achievement all the more remarkable considering the seasoned swimmers they were racing against. Remi Baltrusaitis from Wicklow Swimming Club took third place in the gents and was the only other Wicklow swimmer to be placed. Wicklow Swimming Club would like to thank the Healy-O’Kane family for their generous sponsorship and the beautiful food provided at the presentation in Phil Healys.
